Our Choices do make a difference
“Our Choices do make a difference” is reprinted from “The Very Essence,” a free weekly E-Newsletter on ‘Green’ and Harmonious Living: subscribe at http://theveryessence.icontact.com/newsletters/young-living by Evelyn Vincent, Young Living Distributor #476766, website: http://TheVeryEssence.com.
“One of the things I enjoy most is having the ability to make a difference. Whether it’s through lifestyle choices I make at home or sharing information with others that help them achieve the changes they seek to make – there is nothing more rewarding than knowing you are making a significant difference on many levels.
One of the things I find unique about Young Living, compared to other companies, is the people who are attracted. I mean, here we have a founder, Gary Young, who actually works in the fields, in the YL distilleries, who thinks nothing of hoping in a rickety old boat and going down an Amazon river to trek through remote jungles where extremely few white people have ever visited so he can find and learn about new plants.
“You distributors have no idea what we go through to get these oils.” ~ Gary Young
And there are the distributors, who sign up for a drawing, praying for the chance to sleep in a tent and work in 90* F temperatures for a week harvesting lavender. Or, to harvest Idaho Balsam Fir in Idaho in January in 0* F temperatures. Or, go into the jungle in 100* F heat and 100 percent humidity and trekking through rainforests, mud up to their knees, for the opportunity to hangout with Gary Young and learn about plants and oils in their natural habitats.
This is not a company and group of people who are afraid to get their hands dirty or their hair messed up.
Young Living is also a company who takes into account the importance of true organic practices and sustainability.”
Young Living has a founder/leader who stays 100% committed to providing us with the best possible oils from around the world, and goes to unbelievable lengths to do so. The integrity of the company and the product line are impeccable, and are the reason Young Living truly is the world leader in therapeutic-grade essential oils.
Did You Know?
The best quality essential oils are so complex that bacteria cannot figure out how to become resistant to them. For the past 4,500 years or more, humans have used essential oils for healing. And after 4,500 years not a single micro-organism has been able to grow any form of resistance to any essential oil.
Essential Oils work with the physical, emotional and spiritual bodies.

ProGen – all vegetable and herbal support for the prostrate
Excerpts from “Essential Oils Desk Reference” – compiled by Essential Science Publishing:
Chapter 10 – Dietary Supplements with Essential Oils.
Young Living has an outstanding line of wellness tools that afford an unparalleled opportunity – to people of all ages – to improve mind, body, and spirit. Indeed, Young Living’s line of dietary supplements provides one of the most potent and effective tools available to support health and wellness.
Many of these supplements contain herbs, nutrients and therapeutic-grade essential oils. The oils in these supplements are formulated using a unique process pioneered by Dr Gary Young. The essential oils mixed in these supplements act as catalysts to help deliver nutrients through the cell membranes while assisting in the removal of cellular wastes.
When using supplements, a general guideline is to discontinue use for at least one or two days a week to allow the body to regain homeostasis and permit its natural recuperative powers to engage.
ProGen
ProGen is an all-vegetable and herbal support for the prostate and male glandular system. Saw Palmetto is one of the most widely used herbs to combat prostate enlargement, which affects most men over 45. Pygeum africanum prevents prostate atrophy and malfunction.

Marjoram – soothes the nerves, calms the mind
MARJORAM (origanum marjorana)
It’s a must in everyone’s aromatherapy kit. Turn to the warming, anti-spasmodic action of marjoram to help relieve muscular and period pain. Also a great oil for stress, marjoram soothes the nerves and calms the mind.
Two of marjoram’s most valuable uses are as a muscle relaxant and as an anti-spasmodic oil. Added to a bath full of water, applied in massage or on a warm compress, it can help alleviate backache, indigestion, abdominal pain and menstrual problems.
A massage with marjoram (either on it’s own or in a blend) is also wonderfully soothing for muscles that are tight and sore, for example, after exercise, gardening or from excess tension.
Marjoram has analgesic properties, too, which also help to relieve general aches, pains and stiffness.
Because of its warming and pain-relieving properties, marjoram can ease stiff joints and help mobilise them, relieve rheumatic pain and warm legs that feel cold or heavy.
Used in an inhalation, marjoram helps to clear mucus from the chest and generally relieves the symptoms of colds and respiratory infections.
Stress Antidote
It’s not just marjoram’s ability to relax the body that makes it popular. The oil’s soothing effect on the mind and emotions makes it a good choice for mental stress too.
It can have a comforting effect on people suffering from loneliness and grief, and calm the irritability that comes with being in acute or chronic pain.
It is also helpful in blends used for the elderly.
Marjoram is recognised as one of the most sedating and calming oils available – relieving stress, anxiety and a hyperactive mind.
Marjoram can also relieve certain types of headaches and migraine, and can be particularly useful for dealing with the irritability and anxiety of PMS.
Did You Know?
Ancient Greek women put marjoram on their head as a nerve relaxant and possibly to relieve migraine.
The goddess Aphrodite is reputed to have regarded it as a symbol of happiness.
The ancient Greeks called it ‘joy of the mountain’ and crowned newly married couples with garlands of the herb to bring them good fortune.
The ancient Egyptians used the herb for grief.
When marjoram was brought to Britain in the Middle Ages, people planted it on graves to bring peace to the departed.
Monks grew it in gardens as its sedative properties can dampen sexual desire.

The effectiveness of aromatherapy is directly dependent on the quality of essential oils employed. Always check the botanical (Latin) name of the essential oil to make sure there is no confusion about which oil is being used. Become familiar with both common names and botanical and make a habit of confirming the botanical name of an essential oil before purchasing it.
Young Living’s oils are GRADE A oils & meet AFNOR standards. They are one of the few companies in the world that grows plants from seed, distills & bottles their essential oils.

The Chemistry of Essential Oils
Excerpts from “Essential Oils Desk Reference” – compiled by Essential Science Publishing and Dr. Gary Young ND: Chapter 3 – The Chemistry of Essential Oils: Chapter 4 – How to Safely Use Essential Oils.
The Chemistry of Essential Oils
Unlike synthetic chemicals, essential oil chemicals are diverse in their effects. No two oils are alike.
· Aldehydes – found in lavender and chamomile, are antimicrobial and calming.
· Eugenol – found in cinnamon and clove, is antiseptic and stimulating.
· Ketones – found in lavender, hyssop, and patchouli, stimulate cell regeneration and liquefy mucous.
· Phenols – found in oregano and thyme oil, are highly antimicrobial.
· Sesquiterpenes – predominant in vetiver, Cedarwood and sandalwood, are soothing to inflamed tissue and can also produce profound effects on emotions and hormonal balance.
The complex chemistry of essential oils makes them ideal for killing and preventing the spread of bacteria, since micro-organisms have a difficult time mutating in the presence of so many different antiseptic compounds. At the March 2000 International Symposium in Grasse, France, Dr. Berangere Arnal-Schnebelen presented a paper showing the antibacterial properties of essential oils against several infectious agents. Spanish oregano and cinnamon essential oils tested at above 95% efficiency against Candida albicans, E-coli, and a Streptococcus strain. This is significant as we face life-threatening, drug-resistant viruses and bacteria.
The essential oils of ravensara, Melissa, oregano, mountain savory, clove, cumin, cistus, hyssop, and frankincense are highly anti-bacterial and contain immune supportive properties that have been documented by many researchers, such as Daniel Penoel, MD and Pierre Franchomme. These oils are found in varying amounts in Young Living’s immune support and antimicrobial essential oil blends – eg ImmuPower, Thieves, Exodus II.
There are many ways to use essential oils. The following recipes are a suggestion on how they can be used as a deodorant and disinfectant for your environment.
Deodorising: Kitchens, Bathrooms, etc
The kitchen and bathroom are often a source of odours and bacteria. Use the following mixtures to freshen, deodorise, and disinfect the air, work areas, cupboards, bathroom fixtures, sinks, tiles, woodwork, carpets, etc. These blends are safe for the family and the environment.
Since essential oils separate easily from water, always shake well and keep on shaking the bottle as you use these mixtures. They will deodorise and clean the air, instead of covering the odours.
Recipe #1
· 2 drops rosemary CT cineol
· 4 drops lemon
· 3 drops Eucalyptus globulus
· 4 drops lavender
· 1 cup water
Shake the mixture well and put it in a spray bottle.
Recipe #2
· 3-4 drops lavender
· 5-6 drops Purification
· 1 cup water
Shake the mixture well and put it in a spray bottle.
Recipe #3
· Pine with chamomile, Tea Tree, lemongrass or clove
The effectiveness of aromatherapy is directly dependent on the quality of essential oils employed.

Digestive Problems – Constipation
Excerpts from “Essential Oils Desk Reference” – compiled by Essential Science Publishing: Chapter 30 – Personal Usage Reference; Chapter 10 – Dietary Supplements with Essential Oils.
Digestive Problems
Any of the following indicate that the digestive system is not digesting properly:
· Rumbling or gurgling sounds in the abdomen.
· Heartburn (may be a possible indication of Candida).
· Constipation and/or diarrhoea.
· Constant hunger or fatigue after eating.
· Food intolerance or food allergies.
· Intestinal parasites.
Poor bowel function is linked to enzyme deficiency, low fibre, insufficient liquid, bad diet, and stress.
Why Constipation Can Produce Problems Later in Life
The reason constipation creates diverticulosis is due to the fact that the muscles of the colon must strain to move an overly-hard stool, which puts excess pressure on the colon. Eventually weak spots in the colon walls form, resulting in the creation of abnormal pouches called diverticula.
These pouches can also be created by parasites which burrow and embed in the lining of the colon wall and lay eggs there. It is always wise to consider treating for parasites when diverticula are present.
Constipation
The principle causes of constipation are inadequate fluid intake and low fibre consumption. Constipation can eventually lead to diverticulosis and diverticulitis, conditions common among older people. Certain essential oils have demonstrated their ability to improve colon health through supporting intestinal flora, stimulating intestinal motility and peristalsis, fighting infections and eliminating parasites.

Disease and the emotions
My involvement with essential oils and in particular with the Young Living Essential Oils has come about because of my belief in the subtle energy system of the body – the meridians, chakras, aura – and how I believe it to be the link between the emotions and disease.
Two of my previous blogs on the emotions and diseases of the body came about through a book I am reading on how essential oils can be used to release stored emotions in the body.
As I learn, I like to pass the knowledge on to others. Not everyone is interested in what I believe but the great thing about the internet is, you can put it out there and someone will resonate with it and learn something they didn’t know before.
Just this morning I can across two blogs – part 1 and part 2 – explaining what happens internally when we experience trauma:
I invite you to take the time to read them.
Through correct education on the use of essential oils, and the importance in knowing the quality of the oils to use, we have a tool that empowers us to take control of our own health.

The emotions and essential oils
Following on from my last two posts on Clearing Emotional Patterns using Essential Oils, where it was explained that essential oils can be used in conjunction with acupuncture points to release emotions, I would now like to bring to your attention another method of using essential oils to release the emotions.

1. Applying the Feelings Kit in Your Daily Life
by David Stewart
(Based primarily on notes taken on Gary Young’s talk September 19, 2008, at the first Young Living European Convention, Vienna, Austria)
It has been said that when there is a conflict between reason and feeling, human beings will always side with feeling. According to Gary Young, “99% of life’s decisions are made from feelings.” Therefore, if you want your life to be guided by good decisions that lead to health, happiness, and fulfilment, you need to be aware of and in control of your present feelings and to learn how to release the repressed emotions of the past.
Most of our feelings from day to day are not responses to current happenings. They originate from the programming in cellular memory that was imprinted by the emotional experiences of our past that we were unable to understand, process, and resolve at the time.
These forgotten traumatic experiences function as live programming in our bodies, affecting every aspect of our lives and particularly in the area of how we make decisions. When our thoughts are limited by fears, lack of self-worth, and not feeling good enough for more or better, we make decisions that limit our success. Limited thinking leads to limited decisions that lead to a limited life far short of the God-given potential we actually possess.
By focusing on fixing your feelings, you can fix most aspects of your life – physical, mental, and spiritual. Essential oils are perfect vehicles to help you in this task because their molecules pass directly to the emotional brain and can bring us into contact with the issues we have long forgotten and enable us to deal with them and resolve them once and for all. When we clear our emotional baggage, we clear the way to manifest our true and highest potential.
According to Gary Young, “Thought equals frequency. Essential oils absorb our thoughts. They are registered in the oils as intent. Intent is directed energy. When you apply an intent-energised oil on your feet they can saturate all of your cells within 60 seconds, stimulating creative thinking and pushing negative energy out of the cells, thus increasing the frequencies of the cells throughout the body. In that uplifted state you can create a new desire to be better tomorrow. You have no limitations but those you choose to accept.”
Gary says, “Use The Feelings Kit. Apply feeling oils before work and every night before bed. Do this for 30 days and you will change your life”.
The Feelings Kit, which was out of stock for some time, is available again in a modified version. It contains six oil blends: Valor, Harmony, Forgiveness, Release, Present Time, and Inner Child. Here is how Gary instructed us to use them at the Vienna Convention:
VALOR
Put Valor Oil on the soles of both feet at night-time along with Highest Potential Blend. These blends are effective to erase limited thinking. Valor balances and equalizes the body’s energies thereby increasing oxygen intake to the pineal gland—the seat of our higher intelligence and intuitive faculties. You will wake up in the morning more self assured and more alive to start the day.
HARMONY
Massage one drop of Harmony Oil on each of the energy center points of your body. There are seven of them along the spine: Coccyx, Sacrum, Lumbar, Dorsal (heart), Cervical (where neck meets shoulders), and Medulla (hollow place at center base of skull), and Pineal (center of forehead). You can also massage Harmony on the crown of the head. Harmony balances the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems which, in turn, gives us progressive creativity and feelings of confidence. “The biggest sin is not having confidence in yourself,” says Gary, “He who lacks confidence lacks life.”
FORGIVENESS
Apply Forgiveness Oil around the navel with the right hand going clockwise several times and think of situations where you need to forgive yourself or others. We beat up on ourselves, but everyone makes mistakes. Yet we struggle to forgive our own mistakes and those of others. Unforgiveness is one of the most common roots of physical, mental, and spiritual disease. Unforgiveness does not make the offending party sick. It makes us sick.
Forgiveness is for our own benefit. It is accomplished in five steps.
1. Forgive yourself for allowing the person to affect your health and happiness.
2. Forgive the other person for any harm he or she may have caused you. (This need not be done directly with the person being forgiven, but is an inner adjustment on your part.)
3. Give the other person permission to forgive you.
4. See the good in the situation.
5. Be thankful for the experience and the lesson it taught you. Inhale and apply Forgiveness Oil while going through these steps and repeat as often as necessary to clear the feelings of unforgiveness.
RELEASE
Negative energy goes into the blood and then into the liver for cleansing where the toxins can remain trapped. Thus, the liver becomes a storage place for anger, resentment, bitterness, hatred, jealousy, envy, addictions, and a host of destructive feelings. Apply a few drops of Release Oil on your tongue to release the poisons of stored emotions from the liver. Rub Release over the liver area. Drink lots of pure water and do a liver cleanse.
PRESENT TIME
When we live in the past or dwell on the future, we are not being productive in the present. Energise three drops of Present Time by making clockwise circles on the oil in the palm of your hand and then apply it to your thymus (the gland just under your sternum or breastbone). Besides keeping you focused on the tasks of today, this can also help you financially by increasing your abundance consciousness in the present.
INNER CHILD
“When you are a child all things are possible. There are no limitations,” says Gary Young. “When you find your inner child, you have found your true self. The child in you is your creativity.” Apply one drop of Inner Child onto the pad of your thumb and then place your thumb onto the roof of your mouth. This opens the cranial sutures and stimulates the pineal, pituitary, and other organs of the emotional brain that occupy the space just above the roof of your mouth. Walking backwards while you have your thumb in your mouth looks stupid but it changes the rotation in the pelvis, elongating the spine, and decompressing the discs in your back. Thus, you can clear the nerve channels for energy to flow smoothly throughout your brain and body.
In conclusion, Gary said, “Use the Feelings Kit morning and night for 30 days – you will feel enthusiastic; your life will be full of excitement; and people will be drawn to you like a magnet.”
(NOTE: The Feelings Kit is available from Young Living Essential Oils as Item #312502 Australia – #3125 USA)

Releasing Emotional Patterns using Essential Oils (2)
Clearing Emotional Patterns
Excerpted from: Releasing Emotional Patterns with Essential Oils by Carolyn L. Mein, DC – a very informative book. A must for anyone interested in subtle energy – the meridians, chakras, auras – emotional traumas, essential oils.
Emotions have a negative and positive polarity. We need to be able to access both polarities of all our emotions to be fully alive. Avoiding situations that could cause emotional pain limits our life experiences.
Cause of Emotional Patterns
An emotional pattern is a fear-based survival response. The purpose of the ego is to protect us from harm. The ego is like a big computer; it collects all the data from our life’s experiences, takes everything that is said literally and stores it. The ego’s protective responses are based on past experiences, so future responses will be the same unless the program is changed. As we mature and grow we need to update the ego’s program to experience our full potential.
For example, when you were a small child, you were told not to go into the street. When you were older and able to be responsible for yourself, you were taught to look both ways and to cross the street when it was safe. If you stayed with the initial program of “the street is dangerous, stay out of it,” you would be afraid to cross the street and never experience the world beyond the block where you lived.
As children, we make survival decisions based on our abilities. If you grew up with parents that would punish you every time you said something they didn’t like, you would quickly learn to keep your parents happy by not expressing your feelings whenever you thought it would upset them. This would initiate a survival pattern of not speaking your truth when the people around you could disapprove.
To be safe you had to control your emotions. Since it wasn’t safe to spontaneously express your feelings, you had to suppress and internalise them or find another outlet. As children, we have limited resources, especially when our role models have poor ways of handling their negative emotions. As a result, most of us know the negative expression of an emotion but few of us know the positive side, let alone how to access it.
Pain is usually what causes us to seek better ways of handling situations. Pain is usually induced through trauma either physical or emotional. The trauma then initiates an emotional pattern, which causes the following to occur:
· The emotional energy that gets generated during the trauma enters the body and, if it is not released, gets stored in an organ or gland with the same vibrational energy. For example, anger is stored in the liver.
· The memory of the trauma gets stored in the limbic system of the brain, which is the seat of the emotions.
· Our minds create a belief and attach it to the emotional memory stored in the limbic system of the brain.
· The emotional response to the trauma gets stored in the cellular memory throughout the body and becomes automatic.
Clearing Emotional Patterns
Emotional patterns are held in cellular memory and affect us physically, mentally and emotionally. Changing behaviour patterns requires:
Understanding emotional pattern
This involves seeing how the same emotion presents itself in different situations and how it affects your life. It allows you to see why you are experiencing the problems in your life. Once the pattern is understood or the issue is defined, the message or a better way of handling the situation appears.
Recognise the problem
Recognise the problem before you find yourself in the middle of it. By understanding the cause of the problem, situations can be dealt with in a better way. In essence, the lesson has been learned.
Being willing and ready to change
Until the ramifications or effects of a behaviour are understood or experienced, there is no need, requirement, or motivation to change. This fact is why situations get worse or deteriorate to an unbearable level before a person is able to see the pattern and his/her role in it. Change requires a shifting of direction, which takes effort and focused energy.
Changing the emotional energy pattern
An automatic behaviour or response is a fixed energy pattern. To effectively make a change, the energy needs to be cleared out of all parts of the body: physical, mental and emotional.
· Learning the lesson affects the spiritual body
· Understanding the pattern addresses the mental body
· The associated alarm points access the physical body
· Feelings relate to the emotional body
Clearing Patterns
Clearing an emotional pattern requires bringing the lesson to conscious awareness and fully understanding it, essentially learning the lesson.
Clearing the emotional pattern from the body requires feeling the emotion and releasing it from the body’s cellular memory.
Emotions stored in the glands and organs can be accessed through the acupuncture alarm points, and the limbic system accessed through smell.
Essential oils hold vibrational frequencies that can shift patterns. Using them on the acupuncture alarm points sends the frequency directly to the specific organ.
Smelling the oil releases the pattern from the limbic system of the brain, thus providing direct access to the body’s cellular memory.

Releasing Emotional Patterns with Essential Oils (1)
Clearing Emotional Patterns
Excerpted from: Releasing Emotional Patterns with Essential Oils by Carolyn L. Mein, DC – a very informative book. A must for anyone interested in subtle energy – the meridians, chakras, auras – emotional traumas, essential oils.
Emotions have a negative and positive polarity. We need to be able to access both polarities of all our emotions to be fully alive. Avoiding situations that could cause emotional pain limits our life experiences.
Essential Oils To Release Or Change Emotional Patterns
Have you ever noticed how smells, like bread baking, can send you back to a childhood memory and all the feelings associated with your favourite grandmother? Smell accesses the limbic system of the brain which is the seat of our emotions. Ancient Egyptians used essential oils to clear specific emotions and recorded them on the walls of certain temple healing chambers.
Sesquiterpenes, found in high levels in essential oils such as Frankincense and Sandalwood, help to increase the oxygen in the limbic system of the brain which in turn “unlocks” the DNA and allows emotional baggage to be released from cellular memory.
Emotions have been found to be encoded within the DNA of the cells and passed on from generation to generation. Emotional behaviour patterns have even been found to be “locked” within families. Transplant recipients report strange memories and desires which further substantiates that emotions are stored in the body and encoded in the DNA of the cells. Studies at New York University proved the amygdala gland – the gland in the limbic system of the brain that stores and releases trauma in the body, does not respond to sound or sight or touch, but only releases emotional trauma through the sense of smell.
Emotions themselves are stored in the body in its organs, glands, and systems. Feelings are taken in through the chakras – the energy centres along the midline of the body, and then fed into the meridian system, which consists of energy channels that run over and through the body. Since each organ has a vibrational frequency, as do emotions, the emotions will settle in an area with a corresponding frequency. Disease occurs when the body’s vibrational frequencies drops below a certain point. Essential oils can raise the body’s frequency, and therapeutic grade (medicinal quality) oils are able to do this because they vibrate at a high frequency and transfer that frequency to the body.
Essential oils have been used throughout the ages for healing, and the Bible contains 188 references to them. For example, Frankincense, Myrrh, Rosemary, Hyssop, and Spikenard were oils used for anointing and healing the sick in Biblical times. One of the oldest healing modalities known, acupuncture uses the emotions associated with, and stored in the major organs to diagnose disease.
The effectiveness of aromatherapy is directly dependent on the quality of essential oils employed. Young Living produces the highest quality therapeutic grade essential oils available today. The company controls the entire process from planting to sales and their dedication shows in the final product.

Animal Care using Essential Oils (3)
Excerpts from “Essential Oils Desk Reference” – Compiled by Essential Science Publishing: Chapter 19 – Animal Care and Horses
The therapeutic effects discussed in this book can only be achieved using essential oils which meet the AFNOR standards.
Animal Treatment A to Z
ARTHRITIS: (common in older animals and purebreds):
Ortho Ease or PanAway (massage on location or put several drops in animal feed).
Use Raindrop-like application of PanAway, wintergreen, pine, or spruce and massage the location. For larger animals use at least 2 times more oil than a normal Raindrop Technique would call for on humans.
For prevention: Put Power Meal and Sulfurzyme in feed or fodder. Small animals: 1/8 to 1/4 serving per day. Large animals: 2-4 servings per day.
BIRTHING:
Gentle Baby.
BLEEDING:
Geranium, helichrysum (shave the hair over the area being treated).
BONES: (pain, spurs – all animals):
R.C., PanAway, wintergreen, lemongrass, and spruce. All conifers are very powerful in the action for bones and in promoting bone health. For more effective absorption, it is helpful to shave the fur/hair away from the area being treated. BLM is an excellent supplement for building animal bones.
CALMING:
Peace & Calming, Trauma Life, lavender (domestic animals respond very quickly to the smell).
COLDS AND FLU:
For small animals put 1-3 drops Exodus II, IMMuPower, or Di-Gize in feed or fodder. For large animals, use 10-20 drops.
COLIC:
For large animals (cows, horses) put 10-20 drops of Di-Gize in feed or fodder. For small animals, use 1-3 drops.
FLEAS AND OTHER PARASITES:
Single oils: Lemongrass, tea tree, eucalyptus (all types), citronella, and peppermint.
Blends: Di-Gize. Also add 1-2 drops of lemongrass to Animal Scents shampoo, and use to shampoo the animal.
Oils repel fleas and other external parasites. Wash blankets with oils added to the wash during the rinse cycle. Also, place 1-2 drops of lemongrass on collar to help eliminate fleas.
For internal parasites, daily rub Di-Gize on the pads (bottom) of the feet. Many people have reported that they have seen the parasites eliminated from the animal within days after starting this procedure.
INFLAMMATION:
Apply Ortho Ease, PanAway, pine, wintergreen, or spruce on location. Put Sulfurzyme in feed. Mineral Essence may also be good.
INSECT REPELLENT:
Put 10 drops each of citronella, Purification, Eucalyptus globulus, and peppermint in 8 ounce (250 ml) spray bottle of water.
Alternate formula: Put 2 drops pine, 2 drops Eucalyptus globulus, and 5-10 drops citronella in a spray bottle of water.
Shake vigorously and spray over area. Floral waters, such as peppermint and Idaho tansy, can also be used.
LIGAMENT / TENDONS (torn or sprained)
Apply lemongrass and lavender (equal parts) on location and cover area. For small animals or birds, dilute essential oils with V-6 Mixing Oil (2 parts mixing oil to 1 part essential oil).
MINERAL DEFICIENCIES:
Mineral Essence. (In one case, an animal stopped chewing on furniture once his mineral deficiency was met).
MITES (ear mites):
Apply Purification and peppermint to a Q-Tip and swab just the inside of the ear.
NERVOUS ANXIETY:
Valor, Trauma Life, Roman or German Chamomile, geranium, lavender, and valerian.
PAIN:
Helichrysum, PanAway, Relieve It, clove, or peppermint diluted 50-50 with V-6 Oil Complex.
SHINY COATS:
Rosemary and sandalwood, or sulfurzyme will be beneficial as well.
SINUS PROBLEMS:
Diffuse Raven, R.C., pine, myrtle, and Eucalyptus Radiata in animal’s sleeping quarters or sprinkle on their bedding. Thieves, Super C, Exodus, Exodus II, and ImmuneTune have been reported as being extremely beneficial for sinus and lung congestion.
SKIN CANCER:
Frankincense, lavender, clove, and myrrh. Apply neat.
TICKS:
To remove ticks, apply 1 drop cinnamon or peppermint on cotton swab and swab on tick. Then wait for it to release the head before removing from animal’s skin.
TRAUMA:
Trauma Life, Valor, Peace & Calming, melissa, rosewood, Gentle Baby, lavender, valerian, and chamomile.
TUMORS OR CANCERS:
Mix frankincense with ledum, lavender, or clove and apply on area of tumor.
WORMS AND PARASITES:
ParaFree Softgels and Di-Gize.
WOUNDS: (open or abrasions)
Melrose, helichrysum, and Animal Scents Ointment.
NOTE: All essential oils that are Generally Regarded As Safe (GRAS) or certified as Food Additives (FA) by the FDA may be safely taken internally as dietary supplements. But ingesting essential oils should only be done under the direction of a knowledgeable health professional.

Parkinson’s Disease – natural products
Excerpts from “Essential Oils Desk Reference” – compiled by Essential Science Publishing: Chapter 30 – Personal Usage Reference
The therapeutic effects discussed in this book can only be achieved using essential oils which meet the AFNOR standards.
Parkinson’s Disease
Parkinson’s Disease involves the deterioration of specific nerve centers in the brain and affects more men than women by a ratio of 3:2. The main symptom is tremors, an involuntary shaking of hands, head, or both. Other symptoms include rigidity, slowed movement, and loss of balance. In many cases these are accompanied by a continuous rubbing together of thumb and forefinger, stooped posture, mask-like face, trouble swallowing, depression, and difficulty in performing simple tasks. These symptoms may all be seen at different stages of the disease. The tremors are most severe when the affected part of the body is not in use. There is no pain or other sensation, other than a decreased ability to move. Symptoms appear slowly, in no particular order and may end before they interfere with normal activities. Restoring dopamine levels in the brain can reduce symptoms of Parkinson’s. Sulfurzyme provides a source of organic sulphur, a vital nutrient for nerve and myelin sheath formation.
FIRST RECOMMENDATIONS:
NeuroGen cream, Sulfurzyme, Omega Blue Softgels
Other Single Oils:
Lavender, peppermint, Cedarwood, myrrh, basil
Other Blends:
Peace & Calming, Valor, Valor Roll-on, Brain Power
EO APPLICATION METHODS:
Inhalation:
DIRECT: 3-4 times daily
DIFFUSION: 30 minutes, 2-3 times daily
Topical:
DILUTE 50:50, 1-3 drops on brain reflex points on forehead, temples and mastoids (just behind ears). Use a direct pressure application, massaging 6-8 drops of diluted oil from the base of the skull down the neck and down the spine. Put a few drops of the oil on a loofah brush and rub along the spine vigorously. (Always use a natural bristle brush, since the oils may dissolve plastic bristles).
RAINDROP TECHNIQUE: 3 times monthly
CAUTION: Never use hot packs for neurological problems. Always use cold packs to reduce pain and inflammation. In other words, reduce the temperature of the affected area.
OTHER DIETARY SUPPLEMENTATION:
Super B, PD80:20, BLM

Animal Care using Essential Oils (2)
Excerpts from “Essential Oils Desk Reference” – Compiled by Essential Science Publishing: Chapter 19 – Animal Care and Horses
All of the therapeutic effects of the essential oils in this book are based on oils that have been graded according to AFNOR standards.
Equine Care using Essential Oils
Helpful Tips:
When treating large animals for viral or bacterial infection, arthritis, or bone injury generally use the same oils and protocol recommended for humans.
For applying to large open wounds or hard-to-reach areas, it helps to put the oils in a spray bottle, dilute with vegetable oil (olive) and spray directly on location.
After an oil application to any open wound, cover the wound with Animal Scents Ointment to seal it and protect it from further infection. The ointment will also prevent the essential oils from evaporating.
There is no right way or wrong way to apply essential oils. Every animal is a little different. Use common sense and good judgment as you experiment with different methods. Observe carefully how the animal responds to the treatment.
Take special care not to get essential oils in the animal’s eyes.
Make sure the animal is drinking pure water. Chlorinated water will suppress thyroid and immune function in animals even quicker than in humans, and when that happens, you will suppress the healing process of that animal whether it is a dog, a horse or a cat.
Quality protein is vitally important to promote healing, which makes the use of organic feed essential. Unfortunately many commercial feeds contain bovine byproducts that have high risk for BSE disease and make them unfit for animal care. Avoid these at all costs. Enzymes are also essential to maximise digestion and protein assimilation.
Where to Apply Essential Oils to Animals
For non-ungulate animals (not having hooves) such as dogs or cats, oils (neat or diluted) can be applied to paws for faster absorption.
For hoofed animals, sprinkle a few drops on the spine or flanks and massage them in. Also apply on the gums, tongue, or underneath the top lip: also apply on the frog and cornet banks of hooves. These are all good locations for oils to be applied to cows, horses, etc. (all animals with hooves). Oils can also be applied to auricular points of the ears.
When the Animal is Jittery and Resists:
If you have a high-spirited, jittery animal that won’t be still to receive the application, apply Peace & Calming and/or Valor on yourself first. As you approach the animal, it should react calmer as it perceives the aroma. Kneel down or squat beside the animal and remain still for several minutes, so that it can become accustomed to the smell. As the animal breathes in the fragrances, it will become calmer and easier to manage.

Animal Care and Essential Oils (1)
Excerpts from “Essential Oils Desk Reference” – Compiled by Essential Science Publishing: Chapter 19 – Animal Care and Horses
All of the therapeutic effects of the essential oils in this book are based on oils that have been graded according to AFNOR standards.
ANIMAL CARE AND HORSES
Veterinary Medicine
Essential oils have been used very successfully on many different kinds of animals from kittens to 2,000 lb draft horses. Animals generally respond to essential oils in much the same way as humans do.
How much should I use?
Most animals are even more sensitive to the effects of the oils than humans. They often seem to have a natural affinity to the healing influence of the oils. Adjust dosage proportionately, based on body weight. If the protocol for a human being (at about 160lbs) calls for 3-5 drops, then a horse (at 1600 lbs or more) could use as much as 10 times that amount, while a dog (at 16lbs) would need as little as one tenth of that amount. Generally speaking, if you have never put oils on an animal before, you should start carefully, applying them only to the feet, paws, or hooves (on the frog and cornet bands) at first.
In the case of cats and small dogs, essential oils should ALWAYS be diluted before applying, because they are actually MORE sensitive to the biochemicals in the oils than humans. Be careful to avoid high phenol oils, such as oregano and thyme, on cats because they can be extremely sensitive to these stronger oils. They should only be used in high rates of dilution (90%) and the diluted oil should only be applied to the paws.
General Guidelines:
For small animals: (cats and small dogs)
Apply 3-5 drops DILUTED (80-90%) oil mixture per application.
For larger animals: (large dogs)
Apply 3-5 drops NEAT (dilute if using oils high in phenol) per application.
For large animals (cattle and horses)
Apply 20-30 drops NEAT (dilute if using oils high in phenol) per application.
Use Special Caution with Cats
Cats metabolise things very differently from dogs and other animals. Certain oils are potentially toxic to cats and could result in injury or even death, if applied incorrectly. For example, cats generally have adverse reactions to citrus products, and citrus oils are sometimes used to deter cats from frequenting an area. Also, cats are very sensitive to strong odours. A safe alternative, when in doubt, would be to mist them lightly with floral water. Consulting with a veterinarian is a good policy before applying oils to cats for the first time.
How to Administer Essential Oils Internally
For internal use (ingestion), essential oils can be put into a capsule and mixed with the feed. A few drops could be added to gravy on food when administering to dogs or cats.
On large animals, the animal’s bottom lip can be pulled out and (for example, in the case of a horse) 10 or 15 drops of oil put in. The animal will feel the effect quickly because capillaries in the lip will carry the oil into bloodstream immediately. For a large dog, 1 to 3 drops is sufficient.
When treating animals with essential oils internally, make certain the oils used are pure and free of chemicals, solvents, and adulterants. Always seek the advice of a qualified veterinarian before allowing the animals to ingest essential oils.
NOTE: All essential oils that are Generally Regarded As Safe (GRAS) or certified as Food Additives (FA) by the FDA may be safely taken internally as dietary supplements. But ingesting essential oils should only be done under the direction of a knowledgeable health professional.

The Power of Essential Oils
The Power of Essential Oils in the Realm of Personal, Holistic Healthcare
“No matter how costly pure essential oils may be, there can be no substitutes”
Anyone venturing into the world of therapy using essential oils must use the purest quality oils available. Inferior quality or adulterated oils most likely will not produce therapeutic results and could possibly be toxic. In Europe, a set of standards has been established that outlines the chemical profile and principal constitituents that a quality essential oil should have. Known as AFNOR (Association French Normalisation Organisation Regulation) and ISO (International Standards Organisation) standards, these guidelines help buyers differentiate between a therapeutic-grade essential oil and a lower grade oil with a similar chemical makeup and fragrance.
Every batch of essential oil that comes into Young Living is tested by highly trained independent European laboratories which utilise AFNOR standards. Batches that do not meet the standards are rejected and returned.
Young Living is one of the few companies in the world that grows plants from seed (not hybrids), distils and bottles its products.
